"Very early in my ministry career, I was preaching in a jail service at a maximum security facility. I had this sermon example that I thought was going to blow them away. I was about 2 minutes into the example when a young guy stood up in the middle of the room (understand, standing up in this room could lead to guards dragging you off). He said, “I mean you no disrespect, but we only have so much time before they lock us back up. We are here because we want to hear about Jesus. So please just skip whatever this is, and get to the Jesus part”. They were desperate to hear about Jesus. In Suburban churches, no one says anything if the sermon is bad, they’re just polite."
