Anonymous asked: Since I was very young, I have developed some kind of competitiveness that I now find really unhealthy. Because that same kind of competitiveness eventually turns into jealousy whenever I fail at something. I often find myself comparing myself with the girls in my grade. I know right? This is typical High School drama. But, I can’t help it. I feel like people have forgotten about me, and it makes me want to be someone I’m not.

Unka Glen answered: So, what happens if you win everything, and everyone notices you? What then? You wouldn’t have more friends. Sure, you’d have more people who wanted to be your friend… so they could get something from you. That is to say, you’d have more people trying to use you.
You might have more people wanting to date you, but all you’re really looking for is one really nice dating relationship, with one really good and loving person. Everything else doesn’t matter. You might have more money, but once you buy one of everything you want, what good is all that money? And sure, it’s nice to have your ego stroked, but that wears off real fast.
In the end, If you “won” all these competitions, you’d realize nobody likes you for you, they would be pretending to like you so they can get something from you —and they know you’ll give it to them— because you craved the validation bad enough to compete for it. You’re working hard to be the best at something, so people will be attracted to that something, instead of you.
God made you to be unique. One of a kind. If you discover who He made you to be, and live into that, then nobody could compete with you, they’d just be imitating someone they weren’t created to be. The only real competition in your life that matters, is the one between those forces that would help you live into your destiny, and those forces that would convince you to be a sad little imitation of someone else.
