For years the church has looked for the right thing to take to the extreme. Something that would unlock a deeper, more transcendent walk with God. They’ve tried monasticism, graduate level academics, legalism, end times focus, faith healing, prosperity preaching, hours of continuous prayer, and more intense praise and worship time.

But none of those things has really proven to be the “key” that unlocks that deeper walk. Moreover, by overdoing any or all of those things, you can find yourself obsessively focused on the method, and lose sight of God altogether.

But Jesus already told us the one thing we can take to an extreme, the key that will open the door to a more intimate, and personal, and real relationship with God.

He said, “follow me.”
